Domestic Robotics Production Ramps Up Under New Govt Schemes
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially notified new incentives aimed at boosting the domestic assembly of industrial and service robots. This initiative, launched in early 2024, allows manufacturers to claim subsidies on capital expenditure for setting up production lines within India. The announcement marks a significant shift in the country's technological landscape, moving away from heavy reliance on imported automation hardware.
Several key players in the Indian robotics ecosystem, including Bengaluru-based Symbi Robotics and Pune’s Automated Systems Ltd, have confirmed they are utilizing these provisions. The move comes as global supply chain disruptions continue to affect import-dependent sectors. According to a press release issued last week, the government aims to establish three manufacturing clusters dedicated to robotics components in Delhi-NCR, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.
