India robotics market 2026 report released

New Delhi, October 2024 – The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), in collaboration with Frost & Sullivan, officially released the comprehensive 'India Robotics Market Outlook 2026' report today. The document outlines a robust trajectory for the Indian robotics industry, projecting a significant surge in adoption across manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare sectors over the next two years.

According to the data, the Indian robotics market is expected to grow from an estimated $300 million in 2024 to approximately $1.2 billion by 2026, representing a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 45%. This growth is primarily driven by increasing labor shortages in the industrial sector and the government's push for automation under the 'Make in India' initiative. The report emphasizes that domestic manufacturing capabilities are scaling to meet this demand, reducing reliance on imported hardware.

The report highlights that industrial automation remains the dominant segment, accounting for nearly 60% of total revenue. However, the humanoid robotics segment is identified as the high-growth niche, with expectations of a 150% year-over-year increase in deployments by 2026 as technology matures.

Market Valuation and Pricing Trends

Pricing remains a critical factor for widespread adoption in the Indian market. The report indicates that the average cost of a commercial humanoid robot is currently pegged between $120,000 and $150,000. However, with the introduction of local manufacturing units and government subsidies, prices are projected to drop to approximately $60,000 by early 2026.

Smaller collaborative robots (cobots) are seeing even more aggressive pricing, with entry-level models now available for as low as $5,000. This price reduction is expected to make automation accessible to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which constitute 90% of the Indian industrial base.

Sector-Specific Impact

The report breaks down the impact across key verticals:

Dr. Anjali Sharma, Lead Analyst at Frost & Sullivan, stated that the report reflects a shift from pilot projects to full-scale commercial deployment. She noted that the policy framework, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for advanced manufacturing, is crucial for sustaining this momentum.

The government has allocated Rs 500 crore in grants specifically for robotics R&D and deployment in the 2026 fiscal year budget. This funding aims to reduce dependency on foreign technology and foster a self-reliant ecosystem.

Industry stakeholders welcome the findings, viewing them as a validation of India's potential to become a global robotics hub. The report will be presented at the upcoming India Robotics Summit in Bengaluru next month, where key manufacturers will unveil new pricing models for the domestic market.

With infrastructure improvements and a skilled technical workforce emerging in Tier-2 cities, the 2026 outlook positions India as a critical player in the global robotics supply chain.
