Bengaluru has firmly established itself as the epicentre of India's rapidly growing robotics industry. With a dense concentration of engineering talent, world-class research institutions, and a thriving startup ecosystem, the city is attracting robotics companies from across the globe while nurturing homegrown innovators.

Key Players and Startups

The city is home to several pioneering robotics startups. Addverb Technologies operates a major facility producing autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for warehouse logistics. Genrobotic Innovations has scaled its sewer-cleaning robot Bandicoot from Kerala to Bengaluru's municipal operations. Meanwhile, Miko, the companion robot maker, maintains its R&D headquarters here.

Global robotics firms including ABB, KUKA, and Universal Robots have established offices in Bengaluru, drawn by the availability of skilled engineers and proximity to India's largest manufacturing corridor.

Research and Academic Ecosystem

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) leads robotics research in the country with active programmes in autonomous systems, dexterous manipulation, and aerial robotics. IIIT Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Bengaluru contribute additional research output in AI-driven robotics and computer vision.

Infrastructure and Funding

Bengaluru's technology parks - including Electronic City, Whitefield, and Manyata Tech Park - provide ready infrastructure for robotics companies. The city accounts for a significant share of India's robotics venture capital, with investors increasingly backing automation startups targeting manufacturing, logistics, and agriculture.

The Karnataka state government has announced dedicated incentives for robotics and AI companies, including subsidised workspace and tax benefits under the Karnataka Industrial Policy 2024-29.
